Having taken articles with a Suffolk firm specialising in Criminal Defence in the early 1990’s, this has remained Russell's specialism since qualification in 1994.

Since then Russell has been a Duty Solicitor on schemes in Hertfordshire, Essex and East London, defending a wide range of cases across the whole spectrum, from Magistrates Court, through the Crown Court,  to the Court of Appeal.

These cases have included the Afghan hijacking at Stansted Airport (R-v-Safi and others) in which he was instructed by two of the defendants.

He also has experience of serious fraud, most notably a world-wide Ministry of Defence procurement fraud (R-v-White and others) and a variety of other serious crime from murder and rape through to international drug importation.

Coming from a long line of doctors Russell has a particular interest in medical defences and is an expert in the field of Concussive Automatism.

Russell is also a Solicitor –Advocate with Criminal Higher Rights of Audience and can represent you in appropriate cases in the Crown Court.
